PRESS: Vnukovo says puts employees in downtime

MOSCOW, Apr 25 (PRIME) -- Moscow’s Vnukovo airport has put its employees in downtime, stopped new hires, and 30% of the staff have been notified of possible future dismissal, Izvestiya daily reported on Monday citing two sources close to the measures.

“Moscow’s Vnukovo airport has put its staff in downtime, stopped hiring new personnel, and has started offering limited working schedule,” the daily reported.

The sources said that the notifications is the airport’s insurance instrument if it needs to cut the staff due to a significant fall in the passenger traffic, which cannot be predicted now.

“Job cuts can begin in the autumn when air companies shift to winter schedules and the number of flights falls, but are not rational ahead of the summer season,” the daily reported citing a top manager of one of Russia’s top 10 airports.

Aviation complex Vnukovo has a staff of around 6,500 people, and the International Vnukovo Airport of around 3,500 people so some 1,000–2,000 of them can be dismissed.

A spokesperson for Vnukovo said no job cuts decisions were made as of April 19.
